Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Joseph L. Seitz, 96, of Collegeville will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Abbey Church in Collegeville. Joe died on Monday, March 11, 2013 at his home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Joe was born on August 2, 1916 in Freeport, Minnesota to the late Michael and Mary (Welle) Seitz. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He married Marie M. Koelbl on November 7, 1944 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring and lived in Collegeville most of his life. Joe was a lifelong and active member of St. John's community. He was employed by St. John's University for 45 years, retiring in 1979. Joe was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and the St. Joseph American Legion Post #328.
Joe enjoyed playing cards, fishing in his earlier years and treasured time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Joseph M. Seitz (Audrey) of Alexandria, Virginia, Donna Ward (John) of Edina, Richard Seitz (Kathryn) of Minnetonka, Irene Merz (Steve) of Plymouth, Dorothy Seitz-Tegeder (Tom) of Plymouth, Diane Merz (Doug) of Orono, Arlene Seitz (Robert Wahlstrom) of Eagan, Tom Seitz of Litchfield, Judy Doty (Scott) of Big Lake; grandchildren, Rachel, Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Alex Seitz; Thomas, Michael, and Shannon Ward; Dan, Molly, and Jeff Merz; Megan and Alison Tegeder; Natasha, Sadie, and Ryan Merz; Eric and Christi Wahlstrom; James and Andrea Doty; four great grandchildren; and siblings, Margaret Williams and Rita Rosenthal.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 2003; son, Jerry in 1985; and siblings, Erma Winters, Rev. Cyprian OSB, Marie Allen, Ed, Rev. Al and Ben.
