Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at St. John’s Abbey Church in Collegeville for James L. Klaphake, of Cold Spring who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the St. Cloud Veterans Department of Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Gregory Miller, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the parish center in Collegeville and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at the parish center. Arrangements were made by the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Jim was born November 13, 1944 in Freeport, Minnesota to Mathias and Clara (Toenies) Klaphake. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jim married Patricia R. Austing on May 4, 1968 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, Minnesota. He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic by Larry Minnerath Construction, S & L Excavating, MDI and currently by Clint’s Excavating. Jim was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and St. Joseph American Legion Post #328.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Zipp of St. Michael; son, Kyle of Savage; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Isaac, Allison, Elizabeth, Hannah and Thomas Zipp, Justin and Lauren Klaphake; brothers and sisters, Kenneth of Freeport, Harold of New Munich, Florian of Melrose, Eugene of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Shirley Worm of New Munich, Sharon Gamradt of Sauk Centre, Steve of Freeport and Tom of St. Cloud.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and godson, Michael Klaphake.
